Chelsea have held an emergency meeting with head coach Graham Potter amid the team’s disastrous run of form, according to reports. Potter only arrived as boss in September but has been under immense pressure in recent weeks with the west London club massively struggling in all competitions despite spending over £600m on players since the summer.
Their downfall has led to co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali – who have repeatedly backed Potter – calling an emergency meeting with the former Brighton boss with talks held on Tuesday, according to the Evening Standard. The meeting was supposedly called to address the raft of issues at Stamford Bridge. A dismal 1-0 defeat by bottom-placed Southampton on Saturday meant Chelsea are now on a run of just two wins in 14 games across all competitions. Chelsea's board are not believed to be considering sacking Potter, instead believing that he is key to their long-term project. But the former Brighton head coach remains under serious pressure to salvage a season that is spiralling into disaster.
The Chelsea boss gave players a scheduled two days off after the Southampton defeat and will now seek to instigate a turnaround after a dismal run of just two wins in 14 matches. Potter retains the faith of the Chelsea owners for now. Boehly is due to be at the Tottenham game, while Eghbali is set to attend matches against Leeds and Borussia Dortmund after that. Both were present for the Southampton defeat.
